What should you pay attention to when purchasing an All-weather lounge set?
Does it seem difficult to decide which All-weather lounge set you intend tobuy? Sometimes it’s difficult indeed:imagine all the opinions, stories and reviews. That’s why we’ve listed the most important features you should pay attention to when buying a loungeset.
Compare with other All-weather outdoor fabric sofas in the high segment
1.Pay close attention to the frame
This is the basis. Without a strong frame, the product may look beautiful on the outside, but should look good on the inside as well. Many brands hide the frame by stretching mesh or fabric at the bottom of the sofa. Always ask if you can look under the lounge set and if they cannot show you the inside. This will be quite a disadvantage. Always be careful!
2.What kind of frames are available? Where is the sofa made?
We’re talking about an outdoor fabric sofa, so at first glance you won’t see a frame, just the outside. There are aluminum round tube frames that almost always come from Asia. These frames are very simple and often less sturdy at the welding points. The aluminum is thinner too, to cut costs. The maximum warranty is often 2 years.
Real sturdy thick aluminum plate frames are not common, because these are often made in the Netherlands and not many companies want to incur these costs. So, if there is a beautiful solid aluminum frame in the sofa, they will certainly show it to you and you get at least 5 to 10 years warranty.
Then, there are the combinations; wood and aluminum. As an inner frame, wood can never be used. It is an enclosed space that cannot ventilate properly, even if it’s teak or hardwood, it’s guaranteed to go wrong in the long term. Always avoid wooden frames or a combination of wood and aluminum.
3.Pay attention to the type of foam used
You will find comfortable foam in every outdoor sofa, otherwise it’s impossible to sit comfortably. One foam may be harder than the other, but that’s the supplier’s choice. Too soft pleated foam is not good either, because when using it for a few years, nothing will be left of it. When you consider buying an All-weather outdoor sofa, you may expect the best foam without concessions made, because you pay a fair price for an All-weather lounge set.
Polyether foam is the cheapest foam and cannot be used outdoors. This foam will transform into a large sponge after heavy raining and will rot and mold immediately. This is definitely not an All-weather foam. In this case, you will have to cover the sofa with a rain cover every single day.
Cold foam is a more comfortable choice of foam than polyether and is slightly more expensive and durable, however this foam cannot be outdoors 365 days a year. It will also rot and mold, because it would still retain water. The sofa can handle some rain, but not too much. Be sure to use a rain cover. Cold foam is not All-weather foam either.
A combination of Quick/Ezy Dry Foam and cold foam is also often used. This is only done to reduce costs. Also, not an All-weather outdoor sofa. Don’t be fooled, this combination only exists to save costs.
Quick Dry Foam
The very expensive Quick Dry Foam or Ezy Dry Foam is a type of foam with small holes so that it cannot retain water. After heavy raining the water slowly finds its way out through the foam. This is an All-weather foam and can be left outside 365 days a year. Good quality Quick/Ezy Dry Foam is as comfortable as cold foam. However, Chinese Quick Dry Foam is often less comfortable: the seat is a lot harder. The foam will pulverize after a few years. There is a lot of quality difference.
Which fabric is best suitable?
What to expect if you buy a high-end outdoor All-weather sofa? A fabric that will not discolor.
It is terrible if your sofa is already completely discolored after 2 years. The fabric should also be easy to clean, because the sofa is outdoors for 365 days a year. The fabric must also be chlorine-resistant if you have a swimming pool or live near the sea. There is only 1 outer fabric that meets all these conditions: Sunbrella®. Sunbrella® has the highest color fastness worldwide; code 8. Sunbrella® gives a 5 to 10-year guarantee on their fabrics. There is no better way to buy.
Fabric does not include the (plastic) sky. We do not recommend sky because it is difficult to clean and is sticky during the summer.
Choose an All-weather outdoor sofa of which you can easily remove the Sunbrella® covers so you can wash them in the machine at 30 degrees. After all, they are outside 365 days a year.
Outdoor sofas often consist of modules that you place against each other. Of course, these must be perfectly straight, but the ground is often not. Check if there are adjustable feet underneath so that the modules are at the same height.
Of course, winter covers are fine if you can’t sit on your lounge set all winter long. Are these covers included in the price?Or do you have to buy them separately? This is often a big investment.
I hope I’ve helped you a little bit to make the right choice. A lot of money is paid for a high segment lounge set so you can expect maximum quality.
